The Summit
Going Green
General Information
Why Go Green?
What we must first understand is that the world in which we live is not ours. It belongs to the Almighty God that created the heavens and earth. He saw fit to create the world and the beings therein. God created mankind with a purpose.
From the beginning of our time, God created man to rule because He rules over all the universe. He formed Adam from the dust of the earth and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, making man a living soul. He created Adam to subdue the earth and to keep it.
Jehovah entrusted mankind with the great task of tending to His creation. We have dominion over the earth, not out of some natural right, but, rather, a privilege bestowed upon us by the Everlasting God.
Perhaps the story of the talents in Matthew 25 applies not only to money or gifts, but also to resources. In our world today, oil, crops, trees, and other materials are driving forces of the world economy. These resources - despite many beliefs to the contrary - do not belong to any particular country, region, people, or land. We are all but servants who have been entrusted with portions of our Master's fortune. The question is what will we do with those resources?
Will we squander the gifts God has given and leave a catastrophe for future generations - or perhaps ourselves? Will we invest in the gifts God has given by preserving our resources and multiplying them?
At this year's Summit, we want our actions to fall in line with our doctrine. As citizens, both in this world and in the Kingdom of God, we take our responsibility to this earth seriously. We want to hear the words in Matthew 25:21 apply to our stewardship of our resources.
Though this world will pass, we heed Peter's advice in recognizing that our actions ought be holy in every arena (II Peter 3:8-12). We fully realize that it is the responsibility of the Church to care for all of the many blessings God has bestowed upon us.
